Reflexology FAQ
Reflexology is a complementary therapy that involves applying pressure to specific points on the feet, hands, or ears to stimulate the body's natural healing process and promote overall wellness. It is based on the principle that these points, known as reflex zones, correspond to different organs, glands, and systems of the body. By stimulating these reflex points, reflexology aims to restore balance and harmony within the body.
Reflexology offers a wide range of potential benefits, including stress reduction, relaxation, pain relief, improved circulation, enhanced sleep quality, increased energy levels, and overall well-being. It can also help alleviate symptoms associated with various conditions, such as headaches, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, and musculoskeletal discomfort.
Reflexology is generally considered safe for most people, including pregnant women, children, and the elderly. However, individuals with certain medical conditions or concerns, such as foot injuries, blood clotting disorders, or active infections, should consult with a healthcare professional before undergoing reflexology treatment.
During a reflexology session, you will typically recline in a comfortable chair or lie down on a massage table, fully clothed except for your shoes and socks. The reflexologist will use their hands to apply pressure to specific points on your feet, hands, or ears, using techniques such as thumb-walking, kneading, and circular motions. The pressure applied should be firm but not painful, and you may experience sensations of warmth, tingling, or relaxation during the session.
Reflexology sessions typically last between 30 and 60 minutes, although the duration may vary depending on your individual needs and preferences. Your reflexologist will work with you to determine the optimal session length for your treatment.
The number of reflexology sessions recommended depends on your specific goals, concerns, and response to treatment. Some individuals may experience immediate benefits after just one session, while others may require multiple sessions to achieve their desired results. Your reflexologist can provide guidance on the recommended frequency and duration of treatment based on your individual circumstances.
Reflexology is not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure medical conditions. Instead, it is a complementary therapy aimed at supporting the body's natural healing process and promoting overall health and well-being. While reflexology may help alleviate symptoms associated with various conditions, it should not be used as a substitute for medical treatment or advice from a qualified healthcare professional, such as a Doctor.
When seeking a reflexologist, look for someone who has received formal training and certification in reflexology from a reputable school or organisation. Our practitioners at LiveWell are qualified to a Master Reflexologist level and additionally are registered with the AOR (Association of Reflexologists) Additionally, consider factors such as experience, professionalism, and client testimonials when selecting a reflexologist. It's also important to communicate openly with your reflexologist about your goals, concerns, and expectations for treatment.
While self-reflexology techniques can be practiced at home for relaxation and self-care, it may be beneficial to seek treatment from a qualified reflexologist for a more comprehensive and effective experience. Your reflexologist can provide personalized guidance and address specific areas of concern to maximize the benefits of reflexology for your individual needs.
